Electrophoresis of protein fractions is a laboratory analysis, the study of the quantitative and qualitative characteristics of blood proteins by their distribution in an electric field.

Proteins are built all the cells of the body. Protein is a complex molecule consisting of simpler "building blocks" - amino acids. In total, all blood proteins are called "total protein", in turn, it consists of components - albumin, globulin.

Proteins can acquire a positive and negative charge, depending on the acidity of the environment in which the electrophoresis is carried out. The movement of proteins depends on the magnitude of the charge, the shape and size of the molecule, its weight, and the properties of the medium in which electrophoresis is carried out.

Positively charged protein molecules are better adsorbed than negatively charged ones, so negative charges are used for protein electrophoresis. Albumin has the largest negative charge, so it moves faster towards the anode.
